Darrelle Revis' second stint with the New York Jets came to an end Tuesday night when the team announced it had released the veteran cornerback. Revis did not replace them.

Revis, 31, was scheduled to make $15 million, including a $2 million roster bonus, next season - but that would have been a lofty salary for an aging player who admittedly had a subpar year.

Not that the Jets should care.

Revis thanked Jets fans in a Tweet.

Musk's SpaceX Plans to Send Two Private Citizens to Moon in 2018
The first crewed Falcon Heavy trip will be for NASA to the International Space Station, a journey set for May 2018. Other flight teams have also expressed strong interest and we expect more to follow", SpaceX said in a statement.

"For the past 11 years, Nick Mangold has been a cornerstone of our team both on and off the field", Jets owner Woody Johnson said in a statement released by the team.

The Jets drafted Revis in 2007 out of Pittsburgh and he played the first six seasons of his career with the Jets becoming one of the most dominant cornerbacks in football.

After the Patriots let Revis hit the open free agency market, he signed a 5-year, $70 million contract (including $39.0 million in guarantees) with the New York Jets. Revis became one of the game's most iconic cover corners, earning the name "Revis Island" for his ability to handle top receivers without additional help.

The move will clear around $7.0 million in additional salary cap space for the Jets and leave the team in need to fill nearly 90% of defensive snaps. Jet Nation has always been behind me and teammates. He will become a free agent on March 9.
