White House demands Congress investigate unsubstantiated claim Obama abused executive powers

President-elect Donald Trump arrives on the West Front of the U.S. Capitol Today in Trump: March 4, 2017

A spokesman for former U.S. president Barack Obama on Saturday denied President Donald Trump's allegation that Obama ordered a wiretap of him last October.

He offered no evidence to back this up, and a spokesman for Obama denied it.

The statement follows an explosive allegation Saturday by Trump that former President Barack Obama ordered phones wiretapped at Trump Tower and also states that nobody in the administration "will comment further until such oversight is conducted".

Asked about Trump's tweets on Saturday, a former senior USA official with direct knowledge of investigations by the Justice Department under the Obama administration denied there was any such investigation of Trump or that his phones were tapped.

THE White House demanded yesterday that Congress investigate whether former President Barack Obama abused his executive powers in connection with the presidential election in 2016.

Obama spokesman Kevin Lewis quickly dismissed Trump's claims as "unequivocally false".

"No President can order a wiretap".

NBC News has not found any evidence to substantiate President Trump's wiretapping claims.

The attacks on Obama come amid investigations of any contacts between Trump, his associates and Russians who may have been involved in efforts to influence last year's presidential election.

Trump, however, rejected any accusation of him trying to strengthen ties with Moscow and held the Democrats responsible for the campaign held against him. Nothing found. This is McCarthyism! Hosko called the allegations "unprecedented" and "unlikely to have occurred in the very broad way" that Trump described.

On Sunday, Trump resumed his attack that Obama colluded with Russian Federation.

In a series of tweets on Saturday, Trump claimed that his phones had been bugged, labeling the former president a 'bad (or sick) guy!' and comparing it to Watergate.

However, the White House seems to be doubling down to support Trump's claims. Obama, he says, is the one whose deeds merit investigation. "Those restrictions were put in place to protect citizens from people like you", Ben Rhodes tweeted.
