Dozens of flights at Central Florida airports have been canceled or delayed as a potentially risky winter storm slams the Northeast.

The National Weather Service says the storm will drop more than a foot of snow across much of the upstate region, with some areas getting up to 18 inches and higher elevations in the lower Hudson Valley expected to get 2 feet or more. Minor to moderate property damage as well as significant beach erosion could result in areas close to ocean beaches in all four Shore counties and along the Delaware Bay.

American Airlines, JetBlue, and United each cancelled more than 500 flights.

Conditions will gradually improve Tuesday night into Wednesday, though winds gusts of up to 30 miles per hour are still expected.

"MIA is full of unhappy people", said Quincy Perkins, a Key West filmmaker who was stuck at the Miami airport on his way to Washington, D.C. "Lots of people on my flight out of Key West left knowing already that their flights were canceled out of Miami".

Strong winds cause thousands of power outages across Twin Cities
The trailer is filled with supplies needed for crews to restore power. "We see two, three per year high wind events", Manion said. They are aiming to have another 200,000 customers restored today with 90 percent of customers back by Sunday evening.

As of 7:30 a.m., ET, FlightAware said more than 7,746 flights have been canceled, impacting at least 400,000 travelers.

Perkins said flights to Boston were also being grounded as he waited at MIA Tuesday afternoon. It also reported that 818 flights into and out of the US have been canceled.

They say the airport is open though, so any flights that airlines don't cancel will have the resources to get in and out.

While the snowfall in Kansas City was an inconvenience at most, the snowstorms in the northeast United States brought air travel to a standstill.

American Airline flights from NY were among those canceled.
