Several people were injured during a shooting Thursday at a secondary school in Grasse, France, along the French Riviera.

Interior Ministry spokesman Pierre-Henry Brandet said the attacker - a 17-year-old student attending the high school - had been arrested.

Several people have been injured in a shooting at a French school, sources have said.

France is still in a state of emergency after a series of terror attacks that included a massacre in Paris in November 2015, claimed by the Islamic State group, and a truck attack in Nice, just 40 kilometers from Grasse, in July past year.

Consider this-A Review of French Gun Laws (2012) shows that "ownership of fully automatic firearms [is prohibited] for civilians" in France, yet fully automatic weapons were the very kind used in the Charlie Hebdo attack. The Interior Ministry has issued a terror alert, but local reports suggest the shooter was not linked to any group.

Police cordoned off the area and anxious residents gathered outside in the town, which is 40 kilometers (25 miles) from the southern city of Nice, site of last year's Bastille Day terror attack that killed 86 people.

Trump gives Central Intelligence Agency new powers to conduct drone strikes
The new authority is a change in drone policy from the Obama administration, The Wall Street Journal reported Monday citing US officials.

It is unclear who sent the homemade explosive on Thursday, which was like a "big firecracker" and sent by regular mail, said Paris police chief Michel Cadot.

Both local residents would not provide their names.

The French government had already bolstered security outside after following the series of jihadist attacks since January 2015 that have claimed hundreds of lives.

Police say they are still trying to confirm if there are any casualties in the shooting in the town, 40 kilometers (25 miles) from the southern city of Nice.
