Uber president Jeff Jones quits after just six months

Jones left his position as Target Corporation (NYSE: TGT)'s chief marketing officer in August 2016.

Earlier this month, executive vice president for product and growth Ed Baker, who was said to have engaged in improper sexual behavior with an employee but not sexual harassment, also stepped down.

In related news, Brian McClendon's decision leaves Uber in another tough spot.

Included in the string of high-profile departures at Uber was Amit Singhal, who joined Uber as senior vice president of engineering and reported to Kalanick.

The company was the subject of a consumer boycott after the company continued to operate during a taxicab protest at New York's John F. Kennedy Airport following President Trump's first travel ban.

And then just before that, in mid-February, we have the event that seemingly kickstarted this whole comedy of errors: Susan Fowler, a former engineer at the company, wrote on her blog that Uber suffers from institutional sexism.

Spots Pulled by Firms on YouTube
YouTube is promising more control over where ads appear, after brands were spooked by running near offensive videos. Due to the problem with Google's ad placing policy, numerous well-known brands have pulled their ads.

His departure comes just weeks after the taxi booking app's CEO Travis Kalanick was filmed berating a driver who confronted him about fare changes.

In early March, Uber landed in yet another controversy after a video showed Kalanick in a heated argument with one of his drivers over falling fares and low pay.

Meanwhile, Uber is facing a lawsuit from Google parent Alphabet's self-driving vehicle division, which has accused it of stealing designs for autonomous auto technology. The company has since said it would stop using the tool. It is said that Jones left the ride sharing company citing differences in the beliefs and approach towards leadership.

However, what Jones wrote in an intense assessment of the company confirming his departure drew attention to troubles that lie in Uber's leadership. But angry comments and complaints from drivers turned it into a disaster. Others were downright gleeful at what they saw as another signal that the company they said treated them so badly was self-destructing.

The exit of Mr. Jones is problematic as many former and current employees saw him as the counterpart or successor of Travis Kalanick. Yet they also recognized that this was another sign that the company was going downhill, and what the ramifications of that could be for them. McClendon was at Google for about ten years and was an integral cog in the formation of Google Earth and Geolocation Technology research of the company. If Uber goes under, a source of income (albeit shrinking as Uber cuts rates) goes away.
