Russia, Iran and Syria issue warning to US

Lance Thomas | 16 April, 2017, 01:55

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad claims an alleged poison gas attack blamed on his government last week was "100 percent fabrication" used to justify a U.S. air strike.

Syria said the USA manufactured the chemical attack as an excuse to attack.

Johnson had unsuccessfully attempted to convince foreign ministers at a G7 meeting in Italy this week to agree to impose new sanctions on Russian Federation if it refused to cut ties with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

Assad denied having chemical weapons and said Syria would only allow an "impartial" investigation into the incident.

"We gave up our arsenal three years ago", he said.

"Even if we have them, we wouldn't use them, and we have never used our chemical arsenal in our history".

The U.S. accuses the Syrian government of deliberately launching the deadly chemical attack in Khan Sheikhoun on April 4.

It was the deadliest such incident since a sarin gas attack killed hundreds of people in a rebel-held suburb of Damascus in 2013, prompting threats of United States military action.

A former Syrian general who specialized in chemical weapons told the Telegraph on Friday that Syrian president Bashar al-Assad has retained hundreds of tons of chemical agents despite agreeing to turn in his inventory in 2013.

In the lead up to the government takeover of the rebel-held half of Aleppo last previous year, Human Rights Watch reported on the government's "systematic" use of chlorine gas, marking at least eight incidents in which military helicopters dropped the chemical into residential areas. What does that means?, wondered Lavrov in allusion to Washington's stories to justify its attack, according to which Syrian planes departed from Al Shairat to bomb the town of Jan-Sheijon, in Idlib, with chemical weapons.

The UK Ministry of Defense and Turkish authorities say they have carried out tests on samples that provide evidence that Sarin or a similar substance was used.

Accusing the USA of working "hand-in-glove with the terrorists", he charged during an interview with Agence France Presse that "they fabricated the whole story in order to have pretext for the [missile] attack".

"Our impression is that the West, mainly the United States, is hand-in-glove with the terrorists, Assad said". The Independent reveals that Syria's leader has stated extremely matter-of-factly that these photographs were created in order to further tarnish his reputation, and that no children were killed or harmed as a result of the incident because there was no incident in the first place.

Images of the aftermath, showing victims convulsing and foaming at the mouth, sent shockwaves around the world.

"They admitted only to 1,300 tons, but we knew in reality they had almost double that", Sakat said in the Telegraph interview. One man told how 25 members of his family had died, including his two young twins.

But, the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) said technical experts analyzed the available information "and their preliminary assessment (was) that this was a credible allegation".
