Tragedy struck a family on Mother's Day in Lindenhurst, New York, when an 80-year-old woman, who reportedly had backed up her auto and thought she put the vehicle in drive, jumped a curb and pinned 55-year-old Diane Aluska against a wall, killing her.

'Her mom sees the auto jump the curb, she actually grabs her by her shoulder and pushes her, ' Suffolk County Detective Sergeant James Murphy told the New York Daily News.

Murphy said Diane's quick thinking saved her daughter's life.

The pair had just attended mass on Sunday, Mother's Day, when driver Ann Riolo backed into them while trying to leave the bakery.

Diane Aluska was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip where she was pronounced dead, police said. We are keeping her daughter, Jenna and her family in our thoughts and prayers. "Her mom sees the auto jump the curb, she actually grabs her by her shoulder and pushes her".

A mother in Long Island showed the depths of her love on Mother's Day by giving up her life to save her daughter's.

Riolo suffered injuries during the crash but has not been charged.

Diane was a mother of three; Jenna was her youngest.

"She had thought that she had put it in drive", Mr James Murphy told reporters. I had to wait until after her surgery. "She wants to go to college for it", he said.

This is a awful tragedy on any day, but for it to happen on Mother's Day strikes a particularly emotional chord.

Rich Schaffer, supervisor of the Town of Babylon, called Aluska - who worked in the clerk's office - a "valued member" of the office in a statement.

Jenna's father, Kenneth Aluska, told The Post that he and his son would have to inform Jenna during a hospital visit that her mother had died.
