'Pay Trump bribes here' projected on Trump hotel

Because the President oversees the GSA, Trump effectively became both landlord and tenant when he was sworn in.

Bell also projected the emoluments clause, an anti-bribery provision that forbids any US president from receiving gifts from foreign leaders and is derived from the Latin word "emolumentum", meaning "profit" or "gain". "That's clear, I don't need to embellish". One of the messages points to the entrance, letting the world know that "Trump bribes go here" and another spells out the Emoluments clause, a provision of the Constitution which restricts members of government from, basically, profiting from office, something that's been somewhat overtly ignored by the Trump administration and his family.

The Emoluments Clause was written specifically to prevent USA officials from accepting money from a foreign state.

An artist/hero in Washington D.C. has truly done the Lord's work tonight.

However, the federal government determined in March that it was not violating its lease or the clause with the agreement because, according to them, the legal arrangements Trump set up will ensure that he gets no money from the hotel while he is in office.

While the projections were met with praise by some, supporters of the president maintain there is no proof or evidence of collusion between Trump and Russian Federation. It all started at the end of November, when he and several other folks projected the message "Experts Agree: Trump is a Pig" on to the front of the building (a reference to the late 1980s campaign by the activist group Positive Force declaring the same of Reagan's attorney general, Edwin Meese).

Bell told CNN that his goal was to draw attention to accusations that Trump was allowing foreign leaders to gain access in exchange for staying at his luxury hotel. "Arts are what inform people".

"That is one of the big things that I'm trying to do - using our artwork to explain these stories that are tricky" said Bell, an artist and filmmaker based in the District.

Monday's projections didn't last long - just 10 minutes, until a pair of security guards walked over and blocked out the light - but the photos live on in social media. "There will be a lot more projections to come", he said.

Bell says he enjoys doing these guerrilla projects since they can transform a random government building into a wild conversation piece. "Unfortunately he keeps doing frightful things, so we keep having to go back there".
