Rolf Harris to be released from prison

Rolf Harris court case Rolf Harris to be released from prison
Lance Thomas | 19 May, 2017, 00:15

Two of the indecent assault charges relate to allegations Harris groped the breast of a 16-year-old girl and ran his hand up between her thighs in the back of a taxi at a celebrity sports event in Cambridge in 1978.

"The defendant, Rolf Harris, is to be released from Her Majesty's Prison in Stafford tomorrow and yesterday following an application by the defence which was unopposed by the prosecution I made a decision to grant Mr Harris bail in relation to the charges you are considering in this case".

He has been appearing by video link from Stafford Prison where he has been serving time for earlier convictions.

Harris's release comes as he has been in jail since 2014.

Jurors have already been told Mr Harris, 87, was convicted and sentenced following a trial in 2014.

So far, the former TV presenter had been attending his trial via video link, meaning he will appear in person for the remainder of the trial, upon his release.

She said Harris had said to her, 'Do you often get molested on a Saturday morning?'

After telling her father Harris was a "dirty old man" and had "a bit of a go", she said he replied: "you shouldn't have worn that tight pink jumper".

'He will be attending what remains of this trial in person from Monday next week, ' the judge said.

Harris' current trail began on May 15 but will not be in session on Friday.

"He left quite quickly and I just stood there for a while".

One of the complainants, now aged in her mid-40s, told Southwark Crown Court on Thursday that Harris left her in shock after groping her breast at the BBC Television Centre in 1983 when she was 13.

Harris has been following court proceedings over a videolink from Stafford prison.
