Putin urges end to 'harmful chatter' over Russian meddling

Felix Bryan | 04 June, 2017, 07:50

Russian President Vladimir Putin denied Friday that his government had anything to do with hacking operations aimed at disrupting the US election past year. Putin, addressing the St Petersburg International Economic Forum, said on Friday that the hacking accusations were nothing more than "harmful gossip" which he complained was damaging international relations and the global economy.

He also pledged to help improve conditions for USA business in Russian Federation.

"[Internet protocol] addresses can be invented - a child can do that", he told NBC News correspondent Megyn Kelly, who asked Putin about the us intelligence community's assessment that he gave at least tacit approval for the hacks. "I have read these reports", said Putin. A kid of yours can send it, your girl that is 3-year-old can perpetrate such an attack, they present it like this, they can pass it off like this, and the specialists can invent anything and then they will blame someone else.

He said he had personally reviewed the USA intelligence reports which made the hacking allegations against Russian Federation, and that they contained no meaningful evidence.

President Vladimir Putin has urged U.S. businessmen to use their influence to help normalize Russia-U.S. relations.

Putin said he believes, based on Trump's comments, that the US president still wants to address the issue of climate change.

Putin said he "wouldn't start to condemn President Trump" over the decision, adding that perhaps Trump thought agreements by former President Barack Obama "hadn't been totally thought through". They voted for him and the other team made a mistake.
