Around 50,000 fans crammed into Old Trafford cricket ground under the watchful eye of hundreds of police, including a significant number of armed officers, a sight that would be unusual under normal circumstances.

Fans of the singer and well wishers from around the world filled up the Manchester Arena to watch an enormous line-up of Ariana and friends including Pharrell Williams, Take That, Coldplay, Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus and more.

The show was a mix of gaiety and sombre reflection - fans could at times be seen jumping for joy, while others, holding banners saying "for our angels", could be seen wiping away tears.

The successful show which was streamed online and was shown on BBC One last night (June 4) raised over £2 million and counting and was a show of emotion, solidarity and a defiant declaration of love conquering all.

"As soon as I met her, I started crying and gave her a big hug and she said that I should stop crying because Olivia wouldn't have wanted me to cry".

"What an incredible thing we're doing tonight, would you agree", Bieber said. "Thank you so much for your donations".

But within days Grande and her team began organising the benefit, which overcame considerable logistical and security obstacles to take place less than two weeks later. They have called for her to be formally honoured by Queen Elizabeth and the city of Manchester. A tearful Justin Bieber led the crowd in a tribute to those who lost their lives at Ariana's Manchester Arena concert.

"(God) loves you and he's here for you.

On May 22 a suicide bomber blew himself up, killing 22 people including 7 children at a concert by Grande in Manchester.

"I'm real excited, but real scared", Shannon Beetham, 14, who was injured in last month's bombing, told Reuters.

A handful of eagle-eyed viewers did spot the poignant detail, and took to Twitter to praise the 32-year-old star.

The singer and some of her famous friends held a benefit concert in the English city to benefit the victims of a terrorist attack that took place following her performance there almost two weeks ago.
