Also injured in the shooting was Zach Barth, a legislative correspondent working for Rep. Roger Williams (R-Texas).

Environmental experts in Nebraska say transmission lines to power pumping stations for the planned Keystone XL pipeline would threaten endangered whooping cranes.

The officers engaged the shooter, James T. Hodgkinson of Belleville, Il., and he was killed in the shootout. "We had no arms". We were sitting ducks. "I got shot this morning at the baseball fields but I am in the hospital and ok. It could have been a bad situation if he could have gotten onto the field".

Congressman Roger Williams of Texas.

Zack was shot along with Rep. Steve Scalise of Louisiana and two Capitol police officers. Hodgkinson was shot and killed. "He was texting, letting people know we were under fire. I think we had 25 team players and about 15 staff but Officers Griner and Bailey prevented that and my family will be forever grateful". They saved all of our lives.

Meanwhile, House Majority Whip Scalise had been shot and was down on the ground of the field. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the members of Congress, their staffs, Capitol Police, first responders, and all others affected". Williams recalls he was retrieving balls in the outfield.

After those four long minutes, however, police arrived and 'took a step forwards when they didn't have to, they could have stepped backwards but they stepped forwards, ' Williams said.

"But then came 'Pop pop pop pop pop.' People were yelling, 'He's got a gun".

Bleeding from his leg, he said he ran as fast as he could and jumped into the first base dugout with Rep. Williams attempting to take cover from the shooter.

"Zack has been released from the hospital, it was an in and out shot, went all the way through. I held him and he held me", Williams said. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., and Rep. Mo Brooks, R-Ala., tied a tourniquet around Barth's wounded leg using Brooks' belt.

Barth said by the time he reached the dugout he was bleeding badly but was trying to keep his head down.

"We need to play this game; it's the game of America, it's bipartisan".

The game began in 1909, pushed by Rep. John Tener of Pennsylvania, who once played pro baseball for the Baltimore Orioles, among other teams. "At that point, my adrenaline is pumping and my fight or flight reflexes take control", Barth said. America doesn't give out and it doesn't give in.

Federal legislation that calls for expanding the Amber Alert system in Native American communities across the country has cleared its last hurdle before heading to the full U.S. Senate for consideration. He has previously written about film for Bloody Disgusting, We Got This Covered, What Culture, and The Celebrity Cafe. "We are going to play baseball tomorrow". "Then I saw the shooter train his rifle on me".
