Authorities say a 14-year-old DE girl's actions caused her to fall from a NY amusement park ride and land in the arms of bystanders. She was first treated by emergency staff at the park, then taken to a local hospital.

The teenager was left dangling about 25ft off the ground as her eight-year-old brother cried hysterically saying he couldn't hold on to her.

The operator stopped the ride and a group of guests and employees gathered beneath the ride auto to catch the girl, who dropped into their arms.

The unidentified 14-year-old girl from Greenwood, Delaware, was taken to Albany Medical Center in stable condition with no serious injuries, the Warren County Sheriff's Office said.

Officials inspected the Sky Ride and said it was in proper working order.

"There's a lot of negativity going on about this, that it's the girl's fault, it's Six Flags' fault, it's security's fault", Howard said.

Howard and Winchell were two of only a few people who positioned themselves to catch the girl. She brushed against a tree, and a group of patrons helped break her fall, and numerous park visitors shot video of the incident that has gone across the Internet and television in recent days.

"I couldn't let that little girl die", he told the AP.

"I didn't care if I got hurt, this young girl has a whole life to live ahead of her", said Winchell, who lives in Colonie. He said of the rescue effort: "It was just good to see people band together to do what they could do".

"It's not something that you could just slip out of", Spiegel said.

Loren Lent, from Glenville, New York, said his 10-year-old daughter and wife had also been on the ride and watched from high above as the girl fell.

Luckily, she was caught, and subsequently treated by the medical team at the park.

On Sunday, Six Flags said the attraction will remain closed "out of an abundance of caution" while a "thorough internal review" is conducted.
