England's under-21 side face Germany on Tuesday evening hoping to secure their place in the final of the European Championships.
The under-21 European Championship Semi-Final underway at 17:00 GMT.
Boothroyd, who revealed he watched England's penalty shootout defeat by Germany at Euro 96 at the Baildon Woodbottom working men's club near his Yorkshire home, expects his counterpart Stefan Kuntz's side to be a totally different proposition from the team beaten by Italy in their final group stage match on Friday.
Both teams exhausted in the closing stages though and the tie finished at 2-2 to send the decision on who would reach the final to a penalty shoot-out, with Italy or Spain set to play the second semi-final later in the night. "This is the sort of issue that we have".
"In order for us to be better, we've got to go and win these games. You've got to make these opportunities count". "We want to be known as a team that win tournaments". But we know we've got a very tough opponent and we have a great deal of respect for the German team and it will be a very hard game for us as well.
"It could be an advantage that England have had a couple more days rest than us".
Of the semi-finalists here England's squad accumulated half as many top-flight minutes for their respective clubs last season. The teams have played ten competitive fixtures at under-21 level, with Germany registering two wins to England's four, while England have not lost any of the teams' six Under-21 Euro qualifying fixtures, winning three and drawing three.
This match up brings back many memories and any Englishman would love to get one over on the Germans. "That's the image I want to give off". I think we are getting better. If that ever meant becoming a captain at national level, that would be a dream come true. We are not tourists when we get here, we are here to win it.
With England in the semis for the first time since 2009, midfielder Lewis Baker vowed they have no fear as they plot Euro 2017 glory amid the giants of Europe. After going to penalties at 2-2, we all knew they were doomed and so it was nearly fate when Chelsea's Tammy Abraham and Southampton's Nathan Redmond were denied to hand victory to the Germans.
Always a thing of luck and fortune, penalties resulted in a miss from Gerhardt on the German side, while Germany goalkeeper Pollerbeck rose to the occasion to deny Redmond at a crucial moment and send his team through to the final after seeing Abraham miss his shot earlier on in the shootout.
Ben Chillwell, Max Meyer, James Ward-Prowse (despite Pollersbeck referencing notes he had stuffed down his sock) and Nadiem Amiri then all hit confident penalties despite the growing tension in Poland.
"Both Nathaniel and Nathan have improved significantly since we took the precaution of bringing them off and Nathaniel played a part in Monday's training session towards the end", BBC quoted Boothroyd as saying.
