The video dethroned PSY's "Gangnam Style" that held the original record for five years and stands at 2,895,445,428 views.

According to Youtube, Wiz Khalifa's video has been watched 2,900,522,980 times as opposed to Psy's 2,895,721,567 views.

Gangnam Style remained the most played YouTube video of all time for the last 5 years.

"See You Again" was the song written in the memory of the late actor Paul Walker, who starred in the "Fast and Furious" franchise.

Meanwhile, the dance-move spawning, Auto-tuned "Gangnam Style" has notched 2.894 billion views since it was uploaded in July 2012.

Psy's "Gangnam Style" video, which became a sensation following its release on YouTube in December of 2012, has ruled YouTube charts for over four years.

But whilst Charlie and Wiz can celebrate for now, their party may be short lived as there's another video quickly picking up YouTube views that has only been out for 7 months.

The Pittsburgh native collaborated with Charlie Puth on "See You Again" for the "Furious 7" soundtrack. It was the first video to reach 1 billion views and then again first to reach 2 billion views.

Puth reacted with surprise on Twitter, noting that he joined YouTube in 2007 hoping to make a video that would hit 10,000 views. It has since become a highly requested song to be played at funerals and over on the YouTube platform is still pulling in over a million views per day. Walker died in a vehicle crash two years earlier, but appeared posthumously in Furious 7.

Rapper Wiz Khalifa said in a statement,"I'm super excited and grateful to all those who supported the song and video on YouTube and happy to inspire and impact so many lives". "Sorry" by Justin Bieber (2.63 billion) and Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars' "Uptown Funk" (2.55 billion) are third and forth, respectively.
