The Israeli foreign ministry censors information.

Israel's Reshet Bet radio on Monday morning reported that a senior Israeli official is on his way to Amman to resolve the crisis.

The attacker then tried to escape but a bystander rammed him with his auto and handed him over to police.

More than 300 Palestinians have lost their lives at the hands of Israeli forces in the ongoing tensions since the beginning of October 2015.

On Sunday, an Israeli security guard at the Israeli Embassy in Jordan opened fire and killed two Jordanians, after one of them attacked him with a screwdriver.

The government source said an initial investigation indicated that Jawawdeh and the security guard "fell out over some dispute which led to a stabbing and a shooting".

Details of the incident in the Jordanian capital remain unclear.

The Israeli fired in "self-defense" and killed the alleged attacker, but also hit his landlord, who later succumbed to his wounds, Jordanian security sources and the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said. Part of the problem is that the Jordanian government kowtows to the mob because they fear them. Jordan, meanwhile, refuses to allow the guard to leave the country. Watch this space for more updates on the incident. He says his son was unaffiliated with any group.

Two Jordanians have been killed and an Israeli wounded in an incident next to Israel's embassy in Amman, BBC News reports. "Thus we are also acting regarding the right way to ensure security and quiet on the Temple Mount, in the Old City and in Jerusalem as a whole".

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu spoke on Monday afternoon with the Israeli security guard who is holed up in the Israeli embassy in Amman. Israel says the guard has diplomatic immunity under global conventions and is in touch with Jordanian authorities on the matter. According to the Saraya website, the incident occurred inside the embassy.

Muslims call the site Haram al-Sharif, while Jews consider it to be the holy Temple Mount.

It reopened it on July 16, but with the metal detectors in place, stoking Palestinian anger.

Muslim leaders alleged Israel was trying to expand its control at the site under the guise of security, a claim Israel has denied. Israel denied this charge.

However the MFA says that as a diplomat, the official is immune from "investigation or imprisonment" under global law.

The Haram la-Sharif/Temple Mount was seized by Israel in the 1967 Six-Day War and later annexed in a move never recognised by the worldwide community.

In another sign of the tense atmosphere, a Palestinian assailant stabbed an Arab citizen of Israel in the neck in central Israel, apparently mistaking him for a Jew, police said.

The escalation began earlier this month when Arab gunmen fired from the holy site, killing two Israeli policemen. A few days after the shooting, King Hussein traveled to Israel to comfort the families of the seven slain girls, in what was seen at the time as a touching gesture to Israel that helped solidify his image as a man of peace.
