A luxury skyscraper in Dubai - dubbed the "Torch" tower - is now engulfed in flames, with residents scrambling to escape the 86-story building as the blaze shoots up the side.

In fact, it was not the first time for the Torch to be on fire.

There were no immediate reports of injuries, the Dubai Media Office tweeted.

A statement from the Dubai government on Twitter says no injuries have been reported as yet.

The devastating Grenfell Tower fire in London in June left at least 80 people dead and prompted testing of cladding on residential towers across the UK.

Witness Samer Fathallah told CNN the fire engulfed 30 to 40 residences.

An investigation by Torch Tower's management found that most of the damage from the 2015 fire was to the cladding. It took about 10 minutes for the residents from the 50th floor to exit the building.

This is the latest in a series of fires in tall structures in the United Arab Emirates, the Gulf's tourism and business hub, over the past three years.

Residents are now being sheltered in three nearby hotels, according to the Dubai Media Office, which has tweeted images of firefighters rescuing pets from the building.

Its publication was delayed to allow further changes to be made in the wake of the Address fire and several other high rise blazes where external cladding and other building materials were thought to be a contributing factor.

Earlier this year, Dubai passed new fire safety rules requiring buildings with quick-burning side paneling to replace it with more fire-resistant siding. "Cooling operations are underway".

Dubai skyscrapers are equipped with smoke-free, fire-proof safety zones that allow residents to safely exit the building in case of fire, while simultaneously allowing firefighters to combat the blaze and limit damage.
