Pakistan's ousted Sharif vows to remain active in politics

Lance Thomas | 11 August, 2017, 00:10

Pakistan's Opposition leader Imran Khan today took a dig at former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's defiant roadshow from Islamabad to Lahore, terming it a "Corruption Bachao" rally.

The Election Commission had earlier the PML-N to find a new leader after Mr. Sharif's disqualification.

Addressing Nawaz Kaira said that he was sent home by a bench of the apex court that comprised five judges.

Rana Sanaullah said that the journey of Nawaz Sharif from Islamabad to Lahore would not be against anybody but this was all about the future of Pakistan.

Late on August 9, addressing a rally in Rawalpindi, Sharif said the court's decision to disqualify him from office last month over undeclared wealth was an "insult to voters".

"I have not come here to ask you to make me Prime Minister again". "How many metros has Mrs Nawaz Sharif built?"

Caravans of Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) supporters, led by local leaders, are en route to Islamabad whereas workers along the GT Road have completed preparations to give their leader a rousing welcome.

Qamar Zaman Kaira of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) said that there could be around 10,000 people with Sharif. Sharif began two days of rallies aimed at demonstrating his political strength, making stops from the capital Islamabad to his hometown of Lahore, ignoring security threats and drawing thousands of supporters. Sharif was accompanied by hundreds of his supporters.

"Dictators rule the country for 10 years but a Prime Minister can not even complete his tenure".

"The PML-N leadership has shown resilience despite all odds and continued the democratic process in the face of conspiracies", he continued, adding that "conspiracies were being hatched to derail the system". Party leaders have recently suggested that Abbasi will hold office until elections due next year.

The rally started yesterday but the plan changed and the former premier and his party spent the night in Rawalpindi.

"It is unusual that a man who has been disqualified is planning to.Tell people he is innocent", said the cricketer- turned-politician.
