Falcao missed the tournament in Brazil with a knee injury and had to wait until arriving in Russian Federation to score his first World Cup goal.

Colombia's players celebrate at the end of the Russian Federation 2018 World Cup Group H football match between Poland and Colombia at the Kazan Arena in Kazan on June 24, 2018. With James Rodriguez the architect, the South Americans demolished the Eagles, who last made it through to the World Cup play-offs 32 years ago.

Yerry Mina, Radamel Falcao and Juan Cuadrado scored, giving Los Cafeteros an opportunity advance to the knockout stage with a win over Senegal in the final group stage match on Thursday.

Senegal and Japan drew 2-2 in the other group match and lead with four points each.

Rodriguez's short corner eventually found Quintero, whose smart through ball back to Rodriguez gave him time and space to curl a flawless left-footed cross that Mina rose to header powerfully past Szczesny on 40 minutes.

Colombia saw off the danger and doubled the lead after 70 minutes when Quintero's pass allowed Falcao to beat the last defender before stroking the ball past Szczesny with the outside of his boot.

Colombia, for the part played 87 minutes in their opening match with 10 men after Carlos Sanchez was shown the second-fastest World Cup red card in history.

It helped that they always had an outlet, with Falcao working superbly in the channels and Juan Cuadrado hugging the right touchline to force wing-back Maciej Rybus into his own half with regularity.

Colombia slowed the pace in the second half, showing good counterattacking qualities.

On loan from Real Madrid, Bayern Munich midfielder James Rodriguez was back in Colombia's starting XI after recovering from his calf injury.

"Many things did not go as they should today, during this World Cup".

The team was overwhelmed in midfield and looked clueless in attack in another error-ridden display that resulted in an early exit.

Lewandowski is one of the most prolific strikers in the game and did more than anyone to get Poland to the World Cup with his 16 goals in qualifying, bolstering his already impressive strike rate of more than one goal every two games.

"Tonight practically we used all our forces that were available when it comes to our offensive playing", Poland coach Adam Nawalka told reporters.
