President Trump's other claim in his Sunday tweet - that he did not know about the Trump Tower meeting with the Russians - may also be exposed as a lie.

Keep that last part in mind while reading Trump's positively astounding tweet from yesterday morning.

What are the details?

Just a half hour after Trump's new tweet, Trump lawyer Jay Sekulow admitted that he had put out falsehoods past year when he also claimed that the meeting was about adoption.

However, he subsequently admitted he had agreed to the meeting after being told he would be offered information that would prove detrimental to Mrs Clinton.

Reacting to a report that he is concerned about the fate of Don Trump Jr., Trump dismissed the news as "Fake news reporting" in his tweet.

There's been a lot of misinformation coming from team Trump over the famed Trump Tower meeting on June 9th, 2016, so here is a helpful thread laying out the timeline from trial lawyer, Max Kennerly.

When news of the meeting first surfaced past year, Trump Jr said in a statement that he and Veselnitskaya had mostly discussed a suspended programme for Americans to adopt Russian children., although he has since admitted that he knew he would be offered "dirt" on Clinton.

The infamous meeting was thrust back into the spotlight last month after Trump's former personal attorney, Michael Cohen, alleged Trump approved the meeting.

Trump has denied he had any prior knowledge of the meeting and repeated that claim on Sunday. Jay Sekulow asked on ABC News' "This Week," suggesting that there are no laws prohibiting campaign operatives from meeting and working with foreign agents.

Special Counsel Robert Mueller is examining whether Trump campaign members coordinated with Russian Federation to sway the White House race in his favour.

But at the time, the Trump administration broke from the president's story when it maintained the focus of the meeting was related to policies about adoption of Russian children.

Emails eventually showed that Trump Jr. had actually anticipated receiving damaging information about Hillary Clinton from the Russians during the meeting, a fact he'd failed to disclose at first.

"On Saturday, Trump Jr. had offered a different explanation for the meeting, focusing exclusively on the adoption issue". The President's lawyers had previously offered the special counsel written answers to obstruction questions and limiting the interview to matters before his presidential inauguration, which are largely confined to collusion.

"The president should be straightforward with the American people about the threat to our election process that Russia, Putin in particular, is engaged in is ongoing", Representative Ed Royce, chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, said on CNN's "State of the Union" on Sunday.

He called the "Fake" media "very unsafe and sick".

In another, he expressed frustration with both the media and Mueller's probe.
