During the 2004 Super Bowl halftime show, Justin Timberlake ripped away Janet Jackson's top and briefly exposed her breast to a very big television audience.

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that CBS CEO Les... "The fallout from the incident inflicted significant damage on Jackson's career ― which until that point had produced 10 No. 1 hits ― and still reverberates to this day", the report states.

At the time, Moonves was Viacom's co-president and co-chief operating officer and chairman of CBS.

The CBS chief executive, according to sources who spoke to me, was furious that Jackson didn't make a similarly contrite apology to him.

Back in 2004, Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake's infamous Super Bowl halftime performance ended with what both entertainers claimed was an accidental boob flash due to a wardrobe malfunction.

In July, Moonves was accused of sexual misconduct by six women, and, according to various reports, he will soon depart CBS with a severance package of $100 million in stock.

HuffPost's Yashar Ali reports that Jackson's wardrobe malfunction - during which Timberlake tore a piece of fabric off her shirt, exposing her breast for less than a second - angered Moonves beyond belief. Moonves allegedly asked. Another source told the publication Moonves said heads would roll as a result.

Jackson, he perceived, was not "sufficiently repentant", and he insisted that all Viacom properties (including MTV, VH1 and countless radio stations) stop playing her music. The CBS boss apparently wanted a similar apology from Jackson, which he apparently never got.

Per the report, Moonves continued to hold a grudge against Jackson, and seven years later, when he learned that Jackson signed a book deal with publisher Simon & Schuster, a CBS subsidiary, for her book "True You: A Journey to Finding and Loving Yourself" he was incensed.

In fact, his tone about the book deal was so belligerent one source refused to speak on the record because he was "not interested in having that man following me to the grave and trying to screw me over the whole time".
